Happy Small Business Saturday from untied! And a guest post from Simmone, a freelance fitness instructor. She has been using untied since it first launched in 2018. She was the first person in the country to submit a fully mobile tax return to HMRC so knows a thing or two about getting the most out of untied.

I’m self-employed and for as long as I can remember, I used to get a feeling of dread around Christmas, knowing that I only had another 30 days left to fill in and file my tax return by the end of January. I had a shoebox full of receipts which always ended up all over the dining room table when I sorted them, so I would always put it off as long as I could. It was was my least favourite task of the year.

Using untied just takes the stress away and does the thinking for me. I can tag my income and expenditure as I go along, so I never forget what I’ve spent or earnt as part of my job. I can keep all my business and my personal transactions separate – even if I use the same current account or credit card for both. The journey tracker even logs my mileage and prompts me when I make new trips so I can easily claim for my work journeys.

Once I’d got into the swing of checking the untied app every week for a few minutes, I was surprised how easy it was to submit my tax return at the end of the financial year. After years of waiting until the last minute, I now file my return early because it’s so simple. It puts me in control of my taxes!
