CEO & Co-Founder
A serial entrepreneur with a background as a chartered tax advisor, Kevin has launched several tech businesses, including an internet payments business way before internet payments were much of a thing. He has a knack for finding imaginative solutions to tricky problems. Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Loves white boards, taking strolls, baking bread and riding his unicycle while wearing medieval armour.
CTO & Co-Founder
When it comes to tech there’s not much Marcus can’t turn his hand to. He’s not an accountant, but probably knows more about taxes than he’d care to admit. He co-founded a dot com business with Kevin back in the early 2000s and launched his own RPA technology with clients including NASA, Microsoft and BBC. These days some call it Full Stack Development. Marcus is more modest, and calls it Slave of All, Master of None.
Cool, calm and collected, nothing ever fazes Richard. A serial entrepreneur, mentor and investor, Richard started his journey back in the 90s doing blue chip mergers and acquisitions and has gone on to launch and grow a number of successful tech companies, including one with Kevin, Marcus and Paul. Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a true polymath, he’s just as comfortable coding a neural net in Python as he is negotiating his next business exit!
Alicia is a final year accounting and management student at Queen Mary University of London. She always has had a love for maths and business which led her to untied and working within tax. Up until the age of 16 Alicia wanted to study towards a law degree and work in human rights but her passion took her into accounting and now she wants to help people feel comfortable about finance. She jumps at new opportunities and loves to be challenged – she has been a street dancer for 16 years and has competed in and taken home trophies at the British, European and World Championships across the world!
This could be you
An untied star
This could be where you sit in the untied team. Bring your ideas, energy and get stuff done.
Ben helps maintain and expand untied’s network of commercial partners. He joined untied from a life in Westminster politics working on election campaigns and strategy. Ben is very much a people person and can talk the back (and front) legs off a donkey, as most of the team can attest. Outside of work, when he’s not following his beloved Norwich City up and down the country, you can find him walking the length of London’s parks with his adored dog.
Chief Product Officer
A digital banking and fintech expert (someone said it on the internet, so it must be true), Paul originally stumbled into a career as an accidental banker. He spent early, pre-internet days, working in a bank and providing phone support to customers––and yes, his parents thought he was wasting his law degree! His fascination with technology led him to work across the globe, building digital products and teams at both Santander and HSBC, maintaining his focus on always helping customers. Paul’s superpowers are tenpin bowling and telling dad jokes. Shares a wardrobe with Jon.
Justine keeps the company’s paperwork compliant, specialising in recruitment and talent management but enjoying each new challenge the team finds for her. Her background is Human Resources in real estate venture capital, working in the acquisitions team to integrate senior talent in operating companies across the world. Qualified in tax, psychology and employment law, untied is her ideal team. Her spare time is spent cooking, occasionally pausing to learn new languages and keep her local bookshop in profit but dreaming of food all the while.
Tax Technical Officer
Jon ensures untied’s offering is at the leading edge of tax change as we move closer to Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. He helps make sure untied content is easily understandable for the 12 million people that need to file a personal tax return every year. Before joining untied, Jon worked at HMRC for 32 years, most recently as national Tax Technical Risk Lead and Project Board member. He was responsible for the strategic direction of Corporation Tax and Income Tax technical risk work within the Individuals and Small Business Compliance sector. Jon’s theme song is Taxman by The Beatles! Shares a wardrobe with Paul.
Making a good impression can initiate any number of opportunities for a business – and also risks surprises. Ben works with untied on our source code to ensure that as a business we think through what those opportunities and risks are.
Chantal is a communications specialist and focuses on helping untied raise its profile amongst the 12 million people that fill in a self-assessment tax return every year. With more than 20 years’ experience, both in house and in agency, she excels at delivering thought-provoking programmes and effective content. Chantal is half Swiss (like the trains, she’s ALWAYS on time!), loves yoghurt coated peanuts and Mad Men.
Catia loves learning about new topics and is always happy to take on new challenges. She is naturally curious and most of the time is unravelling some sort of issue or looking out for a new one! A relentless problem solver that can’t help but analyse user experiences to improve them.
Flavius is passionate about making beautiful, light and responsive layouts using the latest frontend technologies, and is driven by the idea “write less, do more”. With more than ten years overall frontend experience and two years of developing user interfaces with ReactJS, he is now enthusiastically contributing to making tax digital within the untied team. When he is not coding, he is probably out there running or cycling or simply discovering new nice places.
Round, red, cheerful and brings joy to taxpayers throughout the UK, Taxberry is here to help you and dedicated to the job. We love Taxberry!
A convertee from science into software engineering, Dan loves new experiences and has an enthusiasm for puzzle solving. He has a wide array of experiences including kangaroo wrangling and making his own chainmail. He thinks of coding like building blocks, where you can only see the end product and have to work out how to get there. He also loves feeding the birds that visit his balcony.
