Meet the untied team! This week we talk to Ben Curtis, Partnerships Manager about what he does, what it’s like working at untied and what his first job was…
What you do and how does this help users?
I work in the partnerships team and help our partners bring the power of untied to their communities. This can range from companies in the gig economy to membership organisations to gyms and everything in between.
How long have you been at untied?
I started in September 2020
What made you want to work in a start up?
I wanted to see my work propelling change within a company. My day-to-day tasks, along with everyone else in our team, make a tangible difference to untied, unlike in a big corporation where change and innovation often go unrecognised.
What are your favourite things about working at untied?
Talking to interesting and different people from organisations of all shapes and sizes. I spend my days meeting people, forging relationships and ultimately helping regular people save swathes of time, money and stress on their tax return – and I get paid for it!
What is it like working at untied compared to working in an established business?
Empowering. You not only see your input sparking change, but you also get feedback on everything you’re doing – meaning that you’re progressing in every respect.
What was your first job?
Working as a pot wash for an events company. It was backbreaking but the spare food was phenomenal.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
Find Elon Musk’s phone number and get on the first tourist vessel to space. I’d probably invest the rest in untied!
What is the last picture/photo you took?
If we’re excluding the smorgasbord of memes that I didn’t actually make, then the last photo I took was my girlfriend and me making empanadas. We took them out of the oven too early and they were a bit cold on the inside – but well worth the effort.
