Self-assessment tax countdown tool and checklist from untied

The self-assessment tax countdown tool from untied, the UK’s personal tax app, today calculated that six million people have now filed their 2021/21 tax returns.

Kevin Sefton, CEO of untied, commented: “With over eleven million people mandated to submit their documentation to HMRC in the next 27 days, that’s five million people left to do a lot of filing! Past years show however that about three quarters of a million people will miss it and get a £100 penalty.

“For anyone that hasn’t done their tax return, we’ve put together a checklist designed to help individuals take tax control, save time and give them confidence – whether they’re first-timers or have been filing tax returns for a long time.”

“Don’t forget, the tax payment deadline is also 31 January. Even if you don't have the funds to pay, make sure you file your return anyway! Although you may pay a small amount of interest, you'll avoid further penalties so long as you pay by 28 February. If you think you may struggle with payments, speak to HMRC to try to arrange a payment schedule. You should do this before 31 January for the most flexible options.”

untied has created a useful tax return checklist for filers.
